THE NT RECAP: News talk show for millennials returns for season two

The Northern Territory’s first dedicated online news talk show, The NT Recap, is back for eight weeks from Monday 12 April. The new season brings in new presenters and segments. The show, filmed entirely on Larrakia land in Darwin, will record live and broadcast via The NT Recap’s YouTube channel and website.

The show delivers a fresh, energetic angle on news and current events in and around the Northern Territory. Delivering breakdowns on NT politics, economics and social events from multiple perspectives. The show is easily digested and designed to appeal to the millennial (18 – 35) generation who prefer to access information on phones and mobile devices.

The eclectic panel of presenters comprises: executive producer/presenter Sophia Emberson-Bain; former journalist and strategic consultant Ashley Manicaros; comedian Amy Hetherington; recreational fisherman extraordinaire Sinclair Hunt; Torres Strait Islander activist, author and unionist Thomas Mayor; Darwin-based, award-winning theatre maker Sarah Reuben; plus adventure duo Matt Hoffman and Damian ’Wildman’ Duffy.

It’s exciting to be back in 2021 with a fresh new team who continue to be dedicated to the NT and the place we all call home,” says fellow executive producer, Michael Scaturchio. We have a dream team — think Chicago Bulls in the 90s dreamy!”

Emberson-Bain says “The new panel builds on last season by bringing the great outdoors into the dynamic, alongside an innovative line-up of exciting weekly guests — and possibly a celebrity or two.”

This season, The NT Recap introduces two new segments. While maintaining its chirpy 15-minute, talk show format, it now adds the escapades of Hoffman and Wildman, plus a celebrity guest interview to highlight exciting Darwin and surround events each week. Guests include: a Parramatta Eels player, a comedian from the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow and indie pop band SAFIA.

*A study by Western Sydney University and the Digital Media Research Centre in 2020 determined “more than half (53%) of young Australians agree that young people should have their own news …” while “… teens use social media sites to get news stories. 48 percent say they do not regularly access news … indicating a lack of options … directed at this age group.”

As the first NT dedicated news talk-show, The NT Recap aims to address this issue by delivering news that matters via the mediums young people are using,” says Emberson-Bain.

The NT Recap is also available to view on Facebook. The show is co-produced by PRLX.
