Sydney, Australia Friday 15 July 2022 – Pivot Pictures is proud to announce the cinema release of the riveting and confronting drama The Conference, in cinemas across Australia on Thursday 11 August 2022.

Premiering in Australia at the Jewish International Film Festival earlier this year, The Conference begins on the morning of January 20, 1942, in a villa on the picturesque Lake Wannsee in Berlin, where leading members of the Nazi regime including SS, Reich Chancellery, ministries, police and administration were invited by Reinhard Heydrich to come together. This meeting would go down in history as the “Wannsee Conference”. The sole topic on the agenda that morning was what the Nazis called the “Final Solution to the Jewish Question”: the organisation of the systematic mass murder of millions of Jews throughout Europe.

The Conference follows the minutes of this meeting as recorded by Adolf Eichmann, of which only one copy remains, and which is a key document pertaining to the Holocaust.

The event is shown for exactly what it was: an objective, matter-of-fact bureaucratic act, the veiled language of which makes the horror even more inhumane. What has been created is an intimate dramatisation which retells with brutal and nightmarish honesty the story of an historical event, which leads to the most horrifying crime in human history.

The Conference is a gripping examination of the cynical nature of humankind’s violence unto itself and is a startling reminder that these very horrors perpetrated could happen again.

Director Matti Geschonneck explains why the film is so important to be told today; “For me it is about sharing this unimaginable and egregious event. It is about a conference where they  planned and set in motion an efficient and organized mass murder, the mass murder of eleven million people, eleven million Jews. It is about a genocide. Certainly, this is by its very nature a singular event in history. But it was once the present and it was not so long ago. And we should all be aware of this”.

The Conference is a modern masterwork which follows a topic of huge and universal importance –  resulting in one of the most important films of 2022.
